Überblick
DTBP is a high-temperature organic peroxide commonly used as an initiator for high-pressure polymerization, particularly in rubber cross-linking and the polymerization of acrylic resins. Additionally, it serves as a versatile agent in polypropylene degradation, making it a key component in a variety of industrial processes that require precise and efficient polymer manipulation.
Technischer Auswahlleitfaden
Produktüberblick
Di-tert-butyl peroxide (DTBP, CAS 110-05-4) is a high-temperature dialkyl peroxide with 10.72% active oxygen and a 10-hour half-life temperature of 121°C. It is the workhorse initiator for high-pressure ethylene polymerization and for the controlled-rheology (visbreaking) modification of polypropylene, where its high decomposition temperature lets it act late in the process without premature radical generation.
Halbwertszeit- und Temperaturprofil
The half-life series — 164℃ at 0.1 h, 141℃ at 1 h, 121℃ at 10 h — defines a process window of roughly 140-180°C. Because the decomposition temperature is high, DTBP is normally the last initiator injected in a cascade, or the only one used where the reaction mass must be kept below the decomposition threshold until the desired point in the cycle. Its decomposition products are methane and tert-butyl alcohol, both volatile and easily stripped.
Auswahl innerhalb derselben Produktfamilie
DTBP (121°C) is the highest-temperature member of the LAAP dialkyl family, above BPDH (CAS 78-63-7, 128°C in 1 h terms), TBCP (CAS 3457-61-2, 120°C) and DTAP (CAS 10508-09-5, 108°C). Choose DTBP when the process runs 150-180°C or when the initiator must survive a hot feed zone. For lower-temperature crosslinking duties, step down to DCP (CAS 80-43-3, 117°C) or BIPB (CAS 25155-25-3, 115°C). Unlike DCP, DTBP does not produce acetophenone, which makes it attractive for odour-sensitive high-temperature processes.
Qualität, REACH & Dokumentation
Standard DTBP is a colourless clear liquid with 10.72% active oxygen. Typical controls are assay, active oxygen, colour and water content. Each batch ships with a CoA; REACH-compliant SDS and a TDS with the half-life table are available.
Verpackung, MOQ & Lieferzeit
Standard packing is 20 kg polyethylene drums, with custom sizes on request. SADT is 80°C and the recommended storage range is -30°C to 40°C, which is unusually wide and makes DTBP one of the easier products to store. Minimum order quantity starts at 25 kg, and quotations are returned within 24 hours.
