Di(tert-butylperoxyisopropyl)benzene (BIPB, CAS 25155-25-3) is a bifunctional dialkyl peroxide with 9.45% active oxygen and a 10-hour half-life temperature of 115°C. Because both peroxide groups are attached to the same benzene ring, crosslinking proceeds through a single, thermally stable aromatic backbone — which is why BIPB has become the standard replacement for DCP in odour-sensitive rubber and polyolefin compounds.
Profil de Demi-Vie et de Température
With a 10-hour half-life of 115℃, BIPB is designed for cure temperatures between 150°C and 180°C. The 1-hour value of 134℃ and the 0.1-hour value of 156℃ show how quickly the decomposition accelerates once the process passes 150°C — the practical implication is that residence time, not peak temperature, controls the degree of crosslinking. In continuous vulcanization (CV) lines for cable, BIPB is normally run in the 170-200°C zone; in compression moulding of EVA foam, the press temperature is set 5-10°C below the CV line to compensate for the longer dwell.
Sélection au Sein de la Même Famille
The BIPB/DCP choice is the most common decision in this family. DCP (CAS 80-43-3) is cheaper and has a very similar 10-hour half-life (117°C), but it decomposes to acetophenone, which carries a strong odour and is the usual cause of failed sensory tests. BIPB's decomposition products — tert-butyl alcohol and diisopropylbenzene — are essentially odourless, so BIPB is preferred for EPDM weatherstrip, HTV silicone, food-contact rubber and interior automotive parts. Against BPDH (CAS 78-63-7, 128°C), BIPB is the lower-temperature option; against DTAP (CAS 10508-09-5, 108°C), BIPB is the higher-temperature option.
Qualité, REACH et Documentation
Standard BIPB grades are ≥96% active with an activation energy of 152.69 kJ/mole. Typical controls are assay, active oxygen, appearance (white powder or flakes) and melting behaviour. Each batch ships with a CoA; REACH-compliant SDS and a TDS carrying the half-life table and recommended dosages are available on request.
Conditionnement, MOQ et Délai
Standard packing is 20 kg corrugated boxes; custom sizes are available. SADT is 80°C and the recommended storage temperature is below 15°C, so product should be kept out of direct sunlight and away from heat sources. Minimum order quantity starts at 25 kg, stock grades ship in 7-14 days, and quotations are returned within 24 hours.
