1,1-Bis(tert-butylperoxy)-3,3,5-trimethylcyclohexane (CH335, CAS 6731-36-8) is a bifunctional peroxyketal with an active oxygen content of 10.58% and a 10-hour half-life temperature of 85°C. Its two peroxide groups decompose at the same rate, so a single loading delivers twice the radical flux of a monofunctional initiator at the same molar dose.

The half-life series — 0.1 h at 128℃, 1 h at 105℃, 10 h at 85℃ — sets the practical process window. Suspension polymerization of EPS is typically run 25-45°C above the 10-hour half-life, i.e. 110-130°C, which keeps the conversion curve steep without leaving residual initiator in the bead. Below 100°C the decomposition rate is too slow to finish a normal cycle; above 140°C the radical flux becomes too high and bead size distribution widens.

Within the LAAP peroxyketal family, CH335 is the mid-temperature member: CH (CAS 3006-86-8) decomposes ~9°C higher, while TACH (CAS 15667-10-4) is nearly identical at 87°C. Choose CH335 when the process target is 110-130°C; step up to CH when you need a slower, more gradual decomposition to control heat release in thick-wall parts; step down to DBPB (CAS 2167-23-9, 98°C) when you need a faster cycle. Against DCP (CAS 80-43-3, 117°C) the practical difference is the byproducts: CH335 gives trimethylcyclohexanone and tert-butyl alcohol, both low-odour, whereas DCP gives acetophenone, which is the usual source of taste and odour complaints in food-contact and consumer rubber.

CH335 is supplied as a liquid or as a dispersion on an inert carrier; standard grades are ≥90% active with an active oxygen of 10.58%. Typical controls are appearance, active oxygen, and assay. A batch Certificate of Analysis (CoA), a REACH-compliant Safety Data Sheet (SDS) and a Technical Data Sheet (TDS) with the full half-life table are issued with every shipment.
