2,5-Dimethyl-2,5-di(tert-butylperoxy)hex-3-yne decomposes at a 10-hour half-life of about 141 °C, with a 1-hour half-life near 165 °C. The alkyne bridge between the two peroxide groups is what pushes decomposition this high, well above dialkyl peroxides such as DCP (117 °C).

Use the alkyne grade when the process runs above 180 °C, or when DCP's acetophenone by-product is unacceptable. Its higher decomposition temperature means the peroxide survives the mixing stage and reacts only in the final hot zone, and its decomposition products are more volatile, so they devolatilise more cleanly.
