Polypropylene
Organic peroxides for the production of Polypropylene
Overview
Through specialized modification techniques, polypropylene can be transformed to significantly improve its rigidity, heat resistance, and dimensional stability. These enhanced properties make it the ideal choice for manufacturing appliances, medical devices, and automotive components. As experts in organic peroxide initiators, we offer customized solutions designed to support various modification processes, from filler and crosslinking to copolymer modifications, ensuring optimal results for your production needs.
Our Advantages
Our manufacturing process includes strict quality checks at every stage, ensuring minimal impurities and a precise balance of active components. We supply a broad range of high and low-temperature initiators, each customizable to suit your specific applications. With nearly 60 years of experience as China’s first organic peroxide producer, our annual capacity exceeds 20,000 tons. Many of our products have earned REACH certification, affirming their compliance with international standards.
Process Window
Choosing an initiator starts from the operating window, not from a product name. The table below gives the stages where an organic peroxide does work in this process, and what it has to do at each one.
| Stage | Temperature | Duration | Initiator requirement |
|---|---|---|---|
| Controlled rheology / visbreaking (extruder) | 210-260 °C | 20-60 s in extruder | A peroxide that decomposes cleanly inside the extrusion window without leaving acidic or coloured residues; by-products must be volatile enough to devolatilise. |
| Long-chain branching (LCB) for foam and film | 190-230 °C | Controlled by peroxide dose | Low dose of a slow decomposing peroxide to create branches without gelling; overdosing leads to crosslinking and unmeltable particles. |
| Peroxide-based crosslinking of PP compounds | 170-200 °C | Crosslinking segment in a compounding line | A peroxide whose decomposition overlaps the compound melt temperature, often co-agent assisted. |
