Overview
2,5-Dimethyl-2,5-di(tert-butylperoxy)hex-3-yne (CAS 895-85-2) is a dialkynyl peroxide used where a very high decomposition temperature and a low-residue cure are required. The alkyne backbone between the two peroxide groups shifts decomposition well above the dialkyl peroxides, so the grade is used for high-temperature crosslinking of specialty elastomers, silicone rubber compounds, and thermoset systems that are processed above 180 °C. LAAP supplies it as a liquid or as a 50% phthalate-free blend, with a lot-specific COA covering active oxygen and purity. Typical duties: • High-temperature crosslinking of silicone and specialty elastomers • Curing of thermoset systems processed above 180 °C • Low-residue initiation where the decomposition products must volatilise cleanly Because the 10-hour half-life sits near 160 °C, this grade is normally used as a secondary (finishing) peroxide rather than as the sole initiator.
