Hydroperoxides for Polymerization & Redox Systems
Four hydroperoxide grades, one selection framework: start with the reaction temperature and whether the system is thermally or redox initiated.
A focused hydroperoxide range
Hydroperoxides are used where a controlled radical flux is needed in emulsion polymerization, redox systems, oxidation chemistry and polymer modification. LAAP manufactures four commercial grades in Lanzhou, each covering a different temperature and by-product profile.
The comparison below uses catalogue values for the undiluted grade. Packaging and storage requirements vary by grade and destination, so confirm the current TDS and SDS before ordering.
Compare the four LAAP hydroperoxide grades
The 10-hour half-life is the primary selection value; active oxygen, by-products and storage follow.
| Grade | CAS | Active oxygen | 10 h half-life | Typical application | Standard packing |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| tert-Butyl hydroperoxide (TBHP) | 75-91-2 | 17.78% | 164℃ | Oxidation chemistry, acrylate/silicone polymerization, surface treatment and polymer modification | The standard packaging consists of polyethylene drums with a net weight of 20 kg or 180 kg. Smaller packaging options are available upon request to meet specific customer needs. |
| tert-Amyl hydroperoxide (TAHP) | 3425-61-4 | 13% | 165℃ | Emulsion and aqueous-phase polymerization, graft polymerization and redox systems; lower-odour by-products | The standard packaging for TAHP is available in polyethylene drums with net weights of 20 kg or 180 kg. Custom packaging options can also be arranged based on specific customer requirements. |
| p-Menthane hydroperoxide (PMHP) | 80-47-7 | ≥8.65% (100% basis) | 128℃ | Cold rubber and low-temperature SBR emulsion polymerization; redox systems | PMHP is typically available in 20 kg polyethylene drums. Additionally, customized packaging options can be arranged to meet specific requirements from customers. |
| Isopropylcumyl hydroperoxide (DBHP) | 26762-93-6 | 8.24% | 129℃ | High-temperature SBR and ABS emulsion polymerization; styrene and acrylic monomers | The standard packaging is available in 20 kg plastic drums. Smaller packaging options can be arranged according to specific customer requirements. |
How to shortlist a hydroperoxide
Use the process before the product name. These three checks remove most of the wrong candidates.
Start with reaction temperature
For thermal initiation, match the 10-hour half-life to the process window. For a redox system, the reducing agent controls radical generation; select the hydroperoxide for compatibility and by-products rather than half-life alone.
Check the storage envelope
SADT and recommended storage differ across the four grades. Confirm the cold-chain capability at your site and at the destination port before sampling.
Confirm the end use
TBHP and TAHP serve oxidation, polymerization and modification duties. PMHP is positioned for cold-rubber/SBR redox systems, while DBHP is the high-temperature SBR/ABS option.
